SEKPY: The Greek defence industry “on ice” by the state

sekpy interview

The president of the Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence Materiel Association, Anastasios Rozolis, describes the situation that has developed in the field of private defense companies and the contradiction between the capabilities of the defense ecosystem and their utilization by the State to strengthen the country’s defense.

On the one hand, 250 companies, 15,000 employees, proven high-level production of systems with a wide range of activities and demanding contracts with third countries and foreign companies, and on the other, the State’s perennial indifference to exploiting domestic potential.

SEKPY is still waiting for a response to the appointment it has requested with the political leadership.

There is a huge development of the defense industry after many years in Europe, but there are not the people needed to staff it, notes in an interview with journalist Nikos Ladianos, on ERT3 radio, the President of the Hellenic Manufacturers of Defense Materiel Association, Tasos Rozolis.

The President of SEKPY, on the occasion of the conference Skills in the EU Defence Ecosystem, which is taking place with the participation of the European Commission in Thessaloniki, underlines that Europe focuses its efforts on attracting young people to this work sector.

Mr. Rozolis also notes that while “in recent years our country has done an excellent job in armament programs, unfortunately the participation rate of Greek industry is very small. We have important companies in the field of defense, but we do not have the necessary bodies,” he concludes.
